Who else is using the same images that you are using?

Sure stock photography is a tempting way to acquire images for your marketing needs (website, brochures, ads, etc.).  After all, it is cheap and easy to find.  However, the problem is that it is cheap and easy to find.

And that leads to the question – Who else is using the same images that you are using?

The answer is lots of companies.  No wonder why stock agencies can offer them so inexpensively and still make a profit.

The average consumer is not only recognizing similar photos on other websites, but they are also recognizing the bland, generic nature of stock images and are ignoring them.

According to the Denver Egotist – “At best, stock photography is a waste of money that is ignored.  At worst, stock photography is a barrier to the usability and effectiveness of your website and marketing endeavors.  Stop relying on stock photography and start owning your brand image.”

You have a unique business, with exceptional staff, and a USP (unique selling proposition)…  why not show it?  Make your business stand out from the crowd.

Are you the best?

One of the many points that I got from Simon Sinek’s presentation was that saying that you are “the best” at something is meaningless.  Even if you are very good at what you do…  are you really “the best”?  Isn’t there someone somewhere who is better than you?

I totally agree!  Case in point, even though Angel & I have been published in Sports Illustrated on more than one occasion, we know that we are not “the best”.   There are MANY more sports photographers who can run circles around us.  And as SI photo editor Jimmy Colton once told us, “If you can shoot action better than Bill Frakes or Peter Read Miller, we will hire you.”  In other words, they ARE the best and that is why they are on staff at SI.

While I may not be THE best, I am very good at what I do…  better than most.  Why?  Because I have dedicated myself to years and years of education, practice and experience. Because I believe in the old adage –  “If you are going to do something, do it right and take pride in it.”!  Because I treat every job with the same attention to detail, whether it is a $10,000 job or a pro-bono charity event.

Photographing the “Start with Why” event

Simon Sinek, the author of “Start with Why” is an extremely energetic and inspirational speaker.  His concept is very simple. Every person and organization on the planet knows what they do.  It doesn’t matter what you do, it matters WHY you do it.

The room was filled with leaders in the community, who intently listened to the hour-long presentation of this very simple concept.

After it was all over, Simon shook hands and signed copies of his book for members of the audience.

A concept as simple as “Why” has a lot of people talking.  Do you know your why?
